The Department also conducts Integrated Sample Survey every year in all the four seasons for estimating production of major livestock products like milk, egg, meat and wool in the state, besides conducting livestock census quadrennial.The Department is implementing several socioeconomic programmes like Livestock Breeding Programme, Pashu Bhagya, Bhoosamruddhi, Special Component Programme, Tribal Sub Plan and Drought prone area programme like special development programme for fodder development in the irrigated lands of the farmers.
Training the farmers as well as in-service personnel in various aspects of dairying, Sheep rearing, Poultry, Piggery and Feeding practices.Development of Dairy, Poultry, Piggery, Fodder, Sheep and Wool along with Rabbit rearing.Extend Artificial Insemination facilities for Cattle and Buffaloes with exotic dairy, Indigenous and pedigreed buffaloes bulls for the improvement of genetic make for milk production and drought ability of non-descript animals.To take up livestock developmental activities for increasing the productivity of livestock to benefit both producers as well as consumers.To provide health coverage to all domestic animals and birds, both for contagious and non contagious diseases.Implementing several socioeconomic programmes through various extension activities Carrying out Artificial Insemination Programmes for getting better milk yield and progeny. (diseases transmitted from animals to man) Department plays a vital role in production of clean, hygienic milk and meat. Conducting vaccination programmes to contain the diseases, which in turn also protects human population from Zoonatic diseases. In giving healthcare to ailing animals and birds. In this regard the department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services plays a key role. But they have been growing enormously and can conveniently be called an industry. Today animal husbandry activities are not just subsidiary to Agriculture. Agriculture activities are predominantly dependent on drought power provided by animal husbandry sector. The main occupation of majority of rural population in the district is Agriculture and its allied activities.
